Palmer reveals reason for choosing Chelsea over Man City and the motivation behind the move

Cole Palmer recalls his transfer to Chelsea, and looking back on his short time at childhood club Manchester City, the 21-year-old labels the move to West London tough.

But considering his quick ascent to prominence and his current call-up to the England squad, it may seem like the right move to Chelsea, justifying how much it was all worth.

The youngster has been a revelation under Mauricio Pochettino, having an instant impact and scoring four goals and two assists in eight Premier League games for the Blues.

Palmer will now have an opportunity to make his England debut during the Three Lions Euro 2024 qualifying campaign at home to Malta and away to North Macedonia.

But when asked about his move to Chelsea, Palmer revealed it was a tough decision to wave goodbye to a club where he spent 15 years, he told Sky Sports:

“It was a really tough decision, and I didn’t know what I was going to do. But with the competition that’s there, the players they have, and those they were going to sign, I made my choice.

“I was speaking to people at Chelsea, and I spoke to my dad, but I really didn’t know what to do. I was thinking about it for a couple of days, near enough every minute of the day. In the end, I felt that for my career, I had to leave to get regular game time.

The move is certainly paying off both for the player and Chelsea. The Blues were fortunate to land the 21-year-old. His sumptuous performance has seen him receive a call-up for the England squad, where he will play with other talented players.

Remaining at City might have been a terrible decision for him given he was down in pecking order and had gotten less game time on the pitch. This would have also slowed his progress, knowing the brim of talent he possessed. It would have gone to waste at City had he remained there.
