Here is Cole Palmer’s message to Conor Gallagher after joining England squad for the first time
Chelsea teammates Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher are currently away on international duty with England’s senior squad.
Unfortunately, England confirmed via their X account earlier today that Chelsea’s Levi Colwill has withdrawn from the Three Lions camp and returned to Cobham to be treated on an injury that caused him to miss the weekend game with Manchester City.
Cole Palmer, who’s 21, has been called up to England’s senior group for the first time this month. It’s a great reward for the attacking midfielder, who’s started his Chelsea career superbly well this season.
He’s got a familiar face in club teammate Conor Gallagher to help him settle with England. The 23-year-old midfielder is another Chelsea player catching the eye in a positive way lately.
Chelsea reunion
Palmer was almost immediately welcomed by a familiar face after arriving at St George’s Park to join the main England squad.
The Three Lions have shared via their X account the interaction between two Chelsea teammates last night.
Gallagher said: “Congrats to you. I didn’t realise you were called up.
Palmer responded: “Right after the [Man City] game it was.
Gallagher asked: “You got the text?”
Palmer replied: “I thought it was a blag at first. I swear. And then it looked real, so…”
Cole Palmer rise
Palmer’s stock has climbed considerably in the space of just a few months.
Most football fans will have been aware of the English youngster in recent seasons, who’s been slowly integrated into Man City’s first-team squad with minutes here and there.
However, he’s now growing into a real talisman for a Premier League club, Chelsea.
Speaking via beIN SPORTS at the weekend, Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino praised the character and talent of Palmer as “amazing”. It’s why Mauricio Pochettino continues to pick him in his starting XI every game.
The challenge now is for the youngster to mix it with the high-profile England stars and make a positive first impression. We suspect the recent move to Chelsea should help him with this.
