Conor Gallagher tops Premier League’s negative stat, but no one’s bothered
A glance at the “fouls committed” category on FBRef shows a Chelsea man top of the list.
Conor Gallagher has managed an impressive 26 fouls in the 12 games we’ve played so far this season, streaking ahead of second placed Abdoulaye Doucoure in second.
Gallagher’s all action style has him among the top players in terms of pressures, tackles and interceptions, so it’s no surprise that these are accompanied by cards too. We wouldn’t change a thing about how he’s playing at the moment, frankly.
Interestingly he’s not even in the top 20 for yellow cards – while Nicolas Jackson is joint top in the whole division with a healthy 7.
Ultimately committing these fouls is just a natural product of Conor’s game – these aren’t dangerous or silly challenges coming on the edge of our box, he mainly does his work in the opposition’s half, and most of these fouls helped break the game up and allowed his team to get back into position.
