Caicedo impressed by 21-year-old Chelsea star, says he’s really impressed now
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has now claimed that he has been really impressed recently by teammate Cole Palmer.
He told the club’s official app that the whole club were confident when he stepped up for the last-minute penalty at the weekend against Manchester City.
Palmer looked as if he had a real point to prove when he came up against his former side in the final league game before the international break.
Joined by an equally hungry Raheem Sterling, the duo ran the show against the reigning treble winners, eventually leaving Stamford Bridge with a well-earned and impressive point.
Caicedo did his part in what was a really high-quality midfield battle, with Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher in particular also stepping up.
The Ecuador international though was full of praise with his 21-year-old teammate for his display, especially with how he handled the immense pressure of the final few minutes.
Caicedo praises Palmer
He said: “We trust Cole [Palmer] very much. He’s a very talented player and a very good penalty taker, so we were all very confident when he stepped up. He is showing his best form at the moment and proving just how good a player he is.”
The Englishman has been rewarded for his recent good form with a call-up to the England senior side for the very first time.
With qualification for EURO 2024 already confirmed for the Three Lions, opportunities for minutes could be there for him.
One player who won’t be joining him though is Sterling, who again was snubbed by Gareth Southgate.
This has come to the surprise of pundits in the game, who believe his most recent performance was an example of showing the manager exactly what he was missing.
