Alan Shearer leaks Chelsea texts as Nicolas Jackson makes a surprising U-turn
Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has praised Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson for his turnaround in form in the last two games.
Jackson, 22, has now scored six goals in the Premier League this season and is currently the Blues’ top-scorer. After scoring only twice in his opening seven games for the club, the striker has now netted four goals in his last two outings.
Following his hat-trick in Monday’s 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur last Monday, Jackson netted another against Manchester City on Sunday. The £30.1million summer signing slotted past Ederson from close range, meaning he is now just two goals shy of Kai Havertz’s best goal scoring season for the club, with a dozen scored by the German.
Senegal international Jackson is enjoying his best form at Stamford Bridge this season and has received plenty of praise in the last ten days. Shearer, who was critical of his performance in the 2-0 home loss to Brentford, admitted the striker has shown signs of improvement.
Speaking on The Rest of Football podcast, the ex-Newcastle United man revealed that the club got in touch with him regarding his criticism of Jackson’s movement. “I mean the game just had everything from start to finish,” he said. “It was entertaining and there were so many impressive performances, particularly from the guys in a Chelsea shirt.
“Jackson I agree, I was critical of his lack of movement a few weeks ago. I got a text from Chelsea to say that they didn’t think it was over the top and that they have been working on one or two things in and around that.
“He was a lot better today and full of confidence after what happened earlier in the week and that showed today. It was a great game for everyone to watch. I think for the fans that is important to see those small steps. The coaching, we all know what Poch is like, he is a very good coach and he is the right man.
“They are definitely improving and they seem to be understanding what he wants.”
